English Radio Stations
to Help Improve Your
Listening Skills

Understanding speakers on English radio stations is hard work, so make it easier on yourself and get your ear use to the sounds of English.

Just like when you were a baby learning Spanish or any other language, you started learning by listening.

In Spain, and other countries, it can be difficult to find opportunities to listen to English. So, plug in your radio and turn up the volume. Listening to the radio is a great way to improve your listening skills as you are able to learn while you drive to work, eat your lunch or clean your house.

When you first start listening to English, the key is to hear the English rather than listen to it. To learn more about how to start hearing English click here.

Here are some English Radio stations that I recommend. (...and they are FREE!)

Pueblo Ingles: More than English

In the Madrid area, Pueblo Ingles has a great radio program called
"More than English".

Starring Sandra and Colby, an energetic and funny pair of English speaks who make listening to English fun, challenging and entertaining. They combine a small amount of Spanish into their programs to make sure that the listeners are able to keep up and not get lost.

You can tune in at 91.9 FM (Zona Norte de Madrid) and 105.1 (Madrid Capital)

The show airs, Mondays to Fridays, 7:30 to 9:30 in the morning and there is another show for children called
"Pueblo Inglés Playhouse" from 20 to 20:30.

NPR: National Public Radio

For something a bit different I highly recommend "National Public Radio".

According to their about page,

"NPR is an internationally acclaimed producer and distributor of noncommercial news, talk, and entertainment programming.

A privately supported, not-for-profit membership organization, NPR produces and distributes programming that reaches a combined audience of 26.4 million listeners weekly. [...] With original online content and audio streaming, NPR.org offers hourly newscasts, special features and ten years of archived audio and information."

I absolutly LOVE this website/radio station because it provides learners and teachers with interesting articles which are accompanied by quality audio files as well.
