English Roleplay: Doctor

by Melania
(Spain)

I'm teaching English to Spanish kids. I need some ideas for a role-play about doctors. My pupils are 5 years old and they want to do it in their graduation's day.

Do you know a song about this topic?

Thank you very much for your attention

Hi Melania,

Let's see. You need a role-play that is simple and fun. I think the best thing would be a doctor diagnosing their patience in the doctor’s office.

So you would have one student as the doctor, one student as a nurse, and the rest would be patients.

You could have the doctor and the nurse in their office waiting for each patient.

When the doctor is ready they could call out the person's name or say "Next".

Then the student could come in and explain their symptom(s) and the doctor could ask a couple of questions and the treatment could be candy or chocolate. :)

You could have each patient say what is wrong

Symptom Examples

My stomach hurts

My head hurts

My foot hurts

I feel sick

I have a fever

I have a headache

I have a stomach-ache

I have a fever.

Doctor's questions

What is the problem?

How are you today?

What can I do for you?

Does this hurt?

As I write this I realize that it might be a bit much for 5 year olds. I taught a group of 5 year olds last year and we were doing very basic things.

I think the best thing would be to teach the questions and symptoms to everyone almost everyday throughout the course so that they know them by heart.

To do this you could start every class dressed-up as a doctor. You could wear a white coat or have a stethoscope or something to show that you are the doctor.

You could then go around the class asking questions. “How are you today?” “Does this hurt?” etc. Then they would choose a symptom from a list or they could be on the board.

This will teach the kids the questions and symptoms and help them learn them throughout the year.

I hope that helps. If anyone else has anymore suggestions, don't hesitate to post a comment below.

PS: As for a song I don't know any that are about doctors. I am sure that there are kids CD's that have songs about different situations (doctors, supermarkets, pets, colours etc).

Write a Roleplay Online
by: Matt M

Hi, this is Matt from englishroleplay.com. These doctor role-plays sound great. If you write the doctor role-plays we can publish them on our website so you can practice it easily and share it with others.
We could put it in the Everyday category.
