English Textbooks

My daughter will start Year 9 in September 2009. She passes English well enough (78-80) but for me, that is unacceptable when all her other grades are in the 80-90s. What good textbooks can you recommend?

I would recommend focusing on activities and exposure to the language, rather than new textbooks. If her grades are already high but you would like them to be higher I would suggest making English fun, and useful to her.

-Get some tv series on DVD (You can choose any but I might suggest "Friends"). If you daughter watched those shows on a regular basis (English with English Subtitles and then later on...no subtitles), her comprehension and vocabulary would greatly improve.

-You could incorporate writing by having her write her reactions, thoughts and a summary of each episode.

- Focus on providing her with lots of interesting reading materials. Try to find magazines that she would be interested in. (You could focus on politics, the economy, health, food, fitness, sports or anything that she would enjoy reading).
