How to Teach English from Scratch?

by Aneesh

How can I teach English for easy communication and for making your own sentences?
Hi Aneesh,

To answer your question fully I would need more information from you.

  • What age level are the students?
  • What resources do you have available to you?
  • Are you teaching from a course or will you be creating the course yourself?

In general, teaching English from Scratch can seem difficult, but it is also wonderful because you don't have to fix as many mistakes.

You have the ability to teach someone everything they know about English. This is a big responsibility.

How do I teach English from Scratch?

Well, first of all, I use a program or course.

Do you have a course that you are following? If not, you could create your own using books that you enjoy or find useful.

I personally recommend the English Grammar in use series.

It is a great way to teach the fundamental elements of English, while advancing into more challenging areas.

The book provides simple grammar explanations combined with lots of example questions and activities to use the grammar.

(This book is excellent for self-study too!)

These questions can be used in class or given as homework.

There are several different levels to choose from but I would use the Essential Grammar (as seen to the left) or the
English Grammar In Use with Answers and CD ROM for Intermediate learners.

Please add more details in a comment below ok, and then I will be able to help you more.

    Cheers,
    Diana

How to Teach English from Scratch?
    by: Aneesh

    Hi Diana,

My student is 23 yrs old.
In fact my student can read and write English, but she is not able to make her own sentences correctly while drafting a letter and cannot communicate in English fluently.

So, I gave her a Rapidex course book and Vocabulary and grammar book. I try to teach by referring to the grammatical points from certain grammar notes.

So, please tell me, can I be successful with this method or is there another easier method to do this? Please suggest something.
