How to Teach Reported Speech

by Fatma
(Palestine)

How to teach reported Speech?

Ways to Teach Reported Speech

-Good Question Fatma!-

- Read a short news report (pretending that you are a television news anchor) and then get the students to ask each other what you said. So starting from the left a student would ask the person to their right.

Student 1: What did she say about...(the city hall)?

Student 2: She said that the city hall will be closed this week for renovations.

- Biographies: Get each student to write a paragraph about themselves; including information about all facets of life. Then get the students to read their paragraphs in front of the class.

Then the students will ask each other about what was said and will respond using reported speech.

Basically you just need to have someone say something, and then have another person tell you what they said.

-Watch a minute of a TV show or movie. Get the students to report what was said in the clip. You could use YouTube in this case too.

Sayad asked me this question earlier. You can see my explanation on how to teach reported speech here.

I hope those ideas help you Fatma!
Have a great day.
