Need to speak English fluently

I try to speak English with my friend, but when it comes to something that I hardly can explain, I go back to using my mother tongue. This is so frustrating.

I feel jealous of my friend who can speak English fluently like an American native speaker. I wish I could be like them.

How can I overcome my jealously and focus on improving my speaking? Your help would be highly appreciated.

Hi Amanda,

It sounds like we have a belief problem, not a language problem.

You said a couple of things:

  • "This is so frustrating".
  • "I feel jealous of my friend".
  • "I wish I could be like them".
  • "How can I overcome my jealously?"

    All of these desires or wishes are related to the way you feel and what you believe. Your mind/brain has been telling you "truths" for a long time and you believe them.

    For example, you probably think that...

    "I'll never be as good as my friend".
    "I'm so jealous".
    "I'm not good enough to be like them".

    So, how do you improve your English when you have all these negative emotions floating around in your mind?

    You tap on them. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT or Tapping) uses acupressure and exploring your emotions verbally to help release negative beliefs and feelings.

    Once you clear these negative emotions you will be able to focus on improving your English and celebrating with your friend, rather than being jealous of them.

    I encourage you to look up tapping (EFT) on the internet. It is quick and easy to learn and you could see an improvement in less than 10 minutes.
