Past Continuous: Margarita Vacation

I went to Margarita Island with my family. We visited many touristic touristy places. I remember one funny experience during our visit there. Here it is:

We where hanging out on the beach during the day and we decided to go to the a disco that night. We went to Frog disco and we enjoyed a lot were having a great time but suddenly while we were dancing and the music stopped and the DJ said please told everybody to leave the disco immediately because it got was on fire. Everybody was screaming and I began to cry. I remember I was saying thinking "oh no This is not the way that I would like want to die", then I heard the DJ say please people lay calm down, I was only kidding because today is it's April Fools day.
