Join Us: Cambridge Text Books

Hello, I live in Venezuela and I'm going to start teaching 3 to 10 year old kids !!! It's their first experience with the language and I would like to know how can I make learning fun and simple !!!!

Hi Veronika, That is great to hear! I wish you all the best with this new job. :) I am so glad to hear that you want to make your student's experience a pleasant one. You play a very important role in these children's lives. They will probably remember you and your classes forever! So let's make those classes amazing!

Textbooks for 3-5 years old

I highly recommend "Join Us". The pupil's book (student's book) is divided into 8 Chapters.

  • 1- Hello!
  • 2- A Party
  • 3- Colours
  • 4- School
  • 5- Animals
  • 6- Party Food
  • 7- Let's Play
  • 8- Holidays

I use these books when I teach kids and I love how colorful, fun and simple they are. (Not to mention how easy they make the classes for the teacher. The teacher's Book is clear and helps you prepare the classes wonderfully).

Be sure to get the Audio CD as well. The first song teaches the kids how to say hello and ask someone what their names is.

Warning! The songs are very repetitive and they might drive you a bit crazy, but the kids them!

For your students to get the most from the textbook, and an easy way for your to assign and create homework, consider getting the Join Us for English Starter Activity Book.

This book helps your students to review and reinforce the new concepts, that they learn in class, at home.

    Tips for Making English Fun

  • Play! I think that playing is the best way to learn anything. So find some games that use the topic you need to teach.

  • Songs are a great way to start or finish class.

  • Start your classes with a high energy activity and end your classes with a high energy activity as well. This will make their classes more appealing.

  • Make it personal! Do things so your students can learn about you or teach you about themselves.

  • Interactive is key! Don't tell them something; let them discover it for themselves.

For more information on teaching kids you can read my article, How Do Kids Learn English.

I hope that helps you Veronika.
    Have a great day!
    Diana
