How can I Speak English Well?

by Mutoto
(Tanzania , Dar es salaam)

HTML tutorial
Hi! my problem is, how can I speak English well because I loose confident and feel shy even I fail to continue speaking in English.
Hi Mutoto,

Looking at your question it sounds like a question about motivation or the process of learning (rather than pronunciation).

If Charles wants to comment he can but I thought I would answer you directly.

The most important thing about learning English is being consistent and always doing something.

If you find a way to study English which you enjoy and you can see yourself doing every day for many years to come...perfect.

Also, it sounds like you are self conscious and do not like making mistakes. Unfortunately, mistakes are a part of the process. You can not expect to be perfect in a day.

A great example of this is learning how to play golf.

I decided that I wanted to learn because my husband is a very good golfer and I wanted to be able to play with him.

So we went to the golf course to hit some balls and the first day was actually very good. I could hit the ball 100 meters...which is great for a first time.

The following week we returned to the driving range to hit some balls and it was horrible. I could barely hit the call 10 meters and I couldn't keep my arms and shoulders in the right position.

I was embarrassed because there were children there playing better than me.

So what did I do?

Did I quit?

NO, I didn't.

Now I won't lie, I was very frustrated and annoyed, but I didn't want to quit because it was fun the first day and it would be fun in the future.

So, in short, learning English is fun and frustrating but it is worth it. Don't give up, just find a fun way to do it!

All the best,

Diana

Speak in English
by: Anonymous

It is not difficult to carry out conversation with others. You must know that the person in front of you is also not an Englishman. He is also a native like you. This problem we experience because we learn our subjects in our mother tongue in India and other under developed countries. My personal experience.

I have a Sanskrit teacher working with me. He feels shy to talk in English. I will always speak to him only in English because I do not know either his mother tongue or Sanskrit. After three months, now we are able to converse in English. That is, he is in a position to answer my questions in English.

Even though he makes grammatical mistakes I do not mind I correct him without hurting his feelings. The learning process goes on smoothly. What I want to tell you is that you have to try to speak in English and no one will laugh at you even if you make a grammatical mistake.

Practice makes a man perfect in due course. I am a stern believer in that.
Wonderful words from an Anonymous visitor. Thank you for spending the time to offer your encouraging words to other visitors. -Diana
