The Less Routine the More Life

"The less Routine the More Life"- Amos Bronson Alcott

When I first heard Amos Bronson Alcott's motivational quote, it made me stop and think.

What was Amos trying to say? What did he want to accomplish by saying those 6 words?

What does it mean for me?

The less we become “slaves” to our jobs and “obligations” the more we can live and allow opportunities into our lives.

It is frustrating when we know what we want to accomplish but we don't know how to make our goals happen but we should never give up on our dreams.

My dream is to build a helpful and useful website for English learners (and I think I am on my way) but sometimes life gets in the way (work, responsibilities, the flu...)

The way I deal with it is trying to prioritize and really analyzing my time. Am I really as busy as I think? I am now using “google calender” from my gmail account and I have found that I get more done.

I can see what my weekly responsibilities are but I can also create reminders and tasks for each week. It feels VERY good when I can cross off one of my tasks as being finished. (Writing this month's newsletter is now finally complete as well).

Watch this really cool interpretation of someone's morning routine.

I believe that we sometimes become too comfortable with our routines and the fear of change or the unknown stops us from trying new things or welcoming new opportunities in our lives.  So the idea of "the less routine the more life" makes perfect sense.

This happens frequently with jobs - people don't take risks because they fear being unemployed and unable to pay the bills - and also in relationships. (What else do you become to comfortable with?)

What I am most interested in is how this idea can influence your English.

How does routine effect you learning English?
